DEPARTMENT/DIVISION: Safety & Operations/Safety, Maintenance & Engineering
REPORTS TO: Managing Director, Safety (Collaboration Managing Director, Flight Operations)


  • Direct and supports various A4A Safety and Operations committees in addition to supporting activities of the MD’s Safety and Operations and related Councils, and other A4A groups as directed.
  • Maintain currency on issues affecting safety and operations and participates in implementation of advocacy efforts on behalf of members.
  • Maintain currency on issues involving OSHA, supporting member airlines in identifying hazards and mitigating risks associated with aircraft ground damage and on-the-job injuries.
  • Responsible for the collection and analysis of aviation industry data related to flight, cabin and ground operations as well as the preparation and dissemination of quarterly reports to A4A membership.
  • Conduct reviews of relevant data sources to identify safety trends and submits information to support A4A positions on relevant safety issues.
  • Edit and publishes documentation on a number of operational safety topics including, but not limited to, aircraft marshaling; severe weather hazards; wildlife strikes; ramp operations and driving safety; preventing and investigating aircraft ground damage; and reducing on-the-job injuries.
  • Collaborate with various external stakeholder organizations involved in the development and implementation of safety guidance and standards associated with flight, ground and cabin operations.




  • Bachelor’s degree required; emphasis in Aviation Safety, Aviation Management, Aeronautical Engineering or Business Administration preferred.

Previous Experience

  • 10 years’ experience with a commercial airline in any of the following fields: Flight Operations, Cabin Operations, Flight Safety, Ground Safety or Maintenance Safety.
  • Air Transport and/or Dispatcher rating preferred.
  • Must have detailed understanding of airline flight and airport operations and aviation safety management.
  • Must have a background in performing detailed analysis as well as good project management skills.
  • Knowledge of commercial aviation industry dynamics.
  • Knowledge of Safety Management System (SMS) policies and processes including those related to hazard identification, risk assessment, development of mitigation strategies and safety performance measures.
  • Experience in the collection and analysis of aviation operational data sources and related collaborative information sharing initiatives.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft™ Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Adobe™ Acrobat software programs and Tableau™.
  • Strong communication skills with proven experience in drafting presentations, reports, papers and other documentation related to the functions of this position and excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Previous involvement with aviation rulemaking activities and safety initiatives desirable.

  • Ability to build consensus among members and other industry groups.;
  • Demonstrate political acumen and ability to interface with senior representatives from government and aviation industry entities.
  • Must be a “self-starter,” able to multi-task, discern customer interests/requirements, perform detailed analyses and communicate complex aviation issues.
  • The ideal candidate will exhibit an understanding of global issues affecting multiple aviation disciplines including: safety; flight operations, airworthiness and air traffic management.
  • Must be available for some overnight domestic travel.

  • If approved by your department supervisors A4A employees have the option to work from home on Mondays and Fridays. All employees are expected to work in the office Tuesdays through Thursdays.
